外貿(mào)漢譯英信函翻譯

外貿(mào)函電作為其中最主要的、應(yīng)用范圍最廣泛的涉外文書，在國(guó)際貿(mào)易中扮演著非常重要的角色。如何把函電準(zhǔn)確、完整、貼切地翻譯成不同的文字，已引趨越來(lái)越多的外貿(mào)工作人員和外貿(mào)文教人員的普遍重視。函電屬于應(yīng)用文體，在翻譯上與其它文體既有相通之處，又有相異所在。

1詞語(yǔ)翻譯方法

1.1一詞多義和一義多詞

如果查閱一本英漢或漢英的詞典，我們會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)許多詞的意思并不是一對(duì)一的關(guān)系。一詞多義、一義多詞是一種十分普遍的現(xiàn)象。因而在外貿(mào)漢譯英時(shí)，我們可以充分利用英語(yǔ)詞匯這一特點(diǎn)，靈活選擇英語(yǔ)詞語(yǔ)來(lái)表達(dá)漢語(yǔ)意義。

1.1.1一詞多義

例1現(xiàn)另郵給你方最新的價(jià)目單和剪樣。

譯文：We are now airmailing you under separate cover our latest price list and cutting sample．

例2望你方能早日裝運(yùn)我方第2213號(hào)定單項(xiàng)下的十箱茶葉為宜。

譯文：Please ship the ten chests of tea covered by our Order No 2213 at an early date

例33356號(hào)定單下的貨物已投保了一切險(xiǎn)。

譯文：The goods under our order No 3356 are covered against All Risks ．

例4秋季展覽會(huì)展出面積為5,000平方米。

譯文：This autumn exhibition covers an area of 5ooo square meters．

例5三天后，開(kāi)證行將在通知書上告知受益人有關(guān)信用證的開(kāi)證情況。

譯文：The initiating bank will inform the beneficiary of the relative L／C in the covering letter three days later．

以上五個(gè)句子中翻譯成英文時(shí)都用cover一詞，但每一個(gè)句子中cover的意思相差甚遠(yuǎn)。

1.1.2一義多詞

在外貿(mào)函電中，價(jià)格是十分重要的因素．沒(méi)有價(jià)格就沒(méi)有貿(mào)易。買賣雙方交易時(shí)，買方當(dāng)然希望賣方能報(bào)商品的最低價(jià)，以獲取最高的利潤(rùn)。中文中的最低價(jià)在英文中有許多的表達(dá)方法，請(qǐng)看下面的例子：

例6我們的報(bào)價(jià)已是最低價(jià)，折扣不能再給了。

譯文：As we have quoted you our rockbottom price，we can't grant you an discount．

例7請(qǐng)報(bào)永久牌自行車最低價(jià)。

譯文：please make us your lowest quotation forForeverbrand bicycle

例8你們將會(huì)看出我們這批貨物的價(jià)格是最低的。

譯文：You will find our prices for these goods on the lowest side．

例9如果有興趣與我方做生意，請(qǐng)報(bào)最低價(jià)。

譯文：If you feel interested in doing business with us，please quote us your best price

例10我們已接最低價(jià)向你方報(bào)盤。

譯文：We have made you an offer at the most competitive price．

例11如果你方向我方報(bào)最低價(jià)，我方將考慮向你方大量訂購(gòu)。

譯文：Should you offer us at the most favorable price，we'll consider placing substantiate orders with you．

上述6句中文中都有最低價(jià)一詞，但在翻譯具體句子時(shí)，應(yīng)靈活處理cheapest一詞．雖也有最低價(jià)的意思．但一般不用于外貿(mào)函電的報(bào)價(jià)，因?yàn)榇嗽~常含有貶義，表示廉價(jià)質(zhì)扶的意思，應(yīng)引起注意。

1.2詞的重復(fù)和省略

在外貿(mào)英語(yǔ)的翻譯中,詞的重復(fù)是不可避免的,這就需要我們?cè)诜g過(guò)程中，根據(jù)英、漢兩種語(yǔ)言的文字特點(diǎn)加以妥善處理．盡量使譯文顯得生動(dòng)、有趣，符合本國(guó)語(yǔ)言的習(xí)慣。有些在漢語(yǔ)中需要重復(fù)或無(wú)法避免重復(fù)的語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象，在漢譯英時(shí)必須予以省略或替補(bǔ)，盡可能

避免重復(fù)是英語(yǔ)的一個(gè)特點(diǎn)。

例12經(jīng)檢查，我們非常遺憾地發(fā)現(xiàn)，貴方傳真通知的數(shù)量，船代理提供的裝船數(shù)量，以及正本提單的數(shù)量和副本提單的數(shù)量都不一致。

譯一：Upon checking，we regret to find that there are discrepancies among the quantities stated in your fax，the quantities of the loaded goods reported by the ship agent and the quantities indicated in the original and duplicated bills of lading．

中文中有四個(gè)數(shù)量，在漢語(yǔ)中這種重復(fù)并不顯得累贅，符合中文的語(yǔ)言習(xí)慣，但在漢譯英時(shí)，如不作處理，直接翻成上述譯文，就顯得相當(dāng)拖沓、繁瑣，應(yīng)改為：

譯二：Upon checking，we regret to find that there are discrepancies of quantities among those stated in your fax，indicated in the original and duplicated bill of lading as well as of the loaded goods reported by the ship agent．

這樣就好多了。把quantities提前與discrepancies結(jié)合，就可用those替代下面許多的quantities 避免重復(fù)，同時(shí)把those幾個(gè)定語(yǔ)的順序稍加調(diào)整，這樣既自然，又朗朗上口，通順流暢。

例13凡因不可抗力以外的原因，一方未能按時(shí)履約而招致對(duì)方損失時(shí)，未能按時(shí)履約的一方應(yīng)承付罰金。

譯一：When the failure of either part to fulfill its contractual obligations in time brings about losses to other on account of causes other than force majeure, that party who fail to fulfill is contractual obligations shall undertake to the penalty

上述譯文中的重復(fù)部分顯得冗長(zhǎng)、羅嗦，如何避免重復(fù)又不影響作為保險(xiǎn)條款之一行文的嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)性呢?

請(qǐng)看譯二：

譯二：When the failure of either party to fulfill its contractual obligations in time brings about loses to the other on account of cause other than force majeure，the defaulter shall undertake to pay the penalty.

用defaulter替代重復(fù)部分，既簡(jiǎn)單明了，又不失原文風(fēng)味，貼切之極。

1.3詞性的轉(zhuǎn)換

在外貿(mào)函電的漢譯英時(shí)，由于英漢兩種語(yǔ)言的不同特點(diǎn)，如英語(yǔ)中名詞較多，而漢語(yǔ)中動(dòng)詞較多等，實(shí)際翻譯時(shí)應(yīng)適當(dāng)借用一些詞的活用法，如詞性轉(zhuǎn)換．突破原文詞句的格局，避免生硬、呆板和拖沓的行文，使譯文變得更加通順流暢，更符合表達(dá)習(xí)慣。請(qǐng)看下面倒子：

例14貨已備妥待運(yùn)多時(shí)，請(qǐng)從速開(kāi)立信用證，以便我方履行合同。

譯文：The goods have been ready for shipment for some time and we hope you will expedite the establishment of your letter of credit to fulfill the terms of the contract．

把原文中從速這一副詞改譯為動(dòng)詞expedite，把開(kāi)立這一動(dòng)詞轉(zhuǎn)換為名詞establishment，語(yǔ)句通順。其它例子還有：

例15該信用證的有效期至11月十15日止。

譯文：The L／C would remain valid until November 15．(名詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成形容詞)

例16請(qǐng)?jiān)趨R票背面簽上承兌字樣

譯文：You are kindly requested toaccept  this draft by signing on the back (名詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成動(dòng)詞)

例17若接受我方條款，請(qǐng)即來(lái)電訂貨，以便我方確認(rèn)。

譯文：If you find our-terms and conditions acceptable- please cable u your order for our confirmation．(動(dòng)詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成形容詞)

例18歐洲和日本化工廠商在塑料生意方面競(jìng)爭(zhēng)異常激烈，迫使我們不得不暫時(shí)降價(jià)。

譯文：Extremely keen competition between European and Japanese chemical manufacture in the plastic business has compelled us to bring down the price for the time being．(動(dòng)詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成名詞)

例19 這批貨的實(shí)際重量與發(fā)票重量相差15噸。

譯文：The actual weight of this consignment is 15 tons less than the invoiced weight．

{動(dòng)詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成形容詞)

例20我們保證立即處理你方定單。

譯文：You may rest assured of our immediate attention to your order．(副詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成形容詞)

例21我們覺(jué)得難以受理貴方索賠譯為：

譯文：We find it difficulty in entertaining your claim(副詞轉(zhuǎn)譯成名詞)

2句子翻譯方法

由于英語(yǔ)和漢語(yǔ)的思辨和推理模式，以及中英兩個(gè)民族的經(jīng)商心理大不相同，所以英漢外貿(mào)信函翻譯中存在著不少語(yǔ)用移位現(xiàn)象，在漢英翻譯時(shí)，我們可以靈活運(yùn)用語(yǔ)用移位法，來(lái)處理如何把漢語(yǔ)句子譯成英語(yǔ)句子。

2.1意合形合移位

漢語(yǔ)重意合(parataxis)，其動(dòng)詞沒(méi)有謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞和非謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞之分，原型動(dòng)詞可以充當(dāng)句子的各種成分，可以按照由先到后、由因到果、由假設(shè)到推論、由事實(shí)到結(jié)論這樣的次序組成線性意念結(jié)構(gòu)；而英語(yǔ)重形合(hypotaxis)，經(jīng)常借助豐富的連接詞語(yǔ)和形態(tài)變化將句子的意思組織成樹(shù)型成分格局，立體感極強(qiáng)，在翻譯時(shí)，應(yīng)注意這種漢語(yǔ)意合結(jié)構(gòu)向英語(yǔ)形合結(jié)構(gòu)轉(zhuǎn)移。

例22付款需憑保兌的、不可撤消的、可分割的、可轉(zhuǎn)讓的、無(wú)追索權(quán)的信用證的即期匯票支付。

譯文：The payment is to be made against sight draft drawn under a confirmed ,irrevocable,divisible and transferable L／C without recourse for the amount．

例23請(qǐng)查看一下標(biāo)題定單。這批貨是按到岸價(jià)訂購(gòu)的。

譯文：We wish to refer you to the captioned order，from which you will see that this order is placed on a CIF basis．

上述兩例的英文分別以分詞短語(yǔ)、介詞短語(yǔ)和從句來(lái)補(bǔ)充說(shuō)明主句信息，使事態(tài)發(fā)展呈現(xiàn)多維態(tài)勢(shì)，而當(dāng)事人各方的職責(zé)及其關(guān)聯(lián)也相當(dāng)明確。這是中文的線性結(jié)構(gòu)所不具備的。

2.2信息焦點(diǎn)移位

漢語(yǔ)由于多采用意合方式組詞成句，所以，相對(duì)于英語(yǔ)來(lái)說(shuō)，更傾向于把最重要的信息(信息焦點(diǎn))置于句中或句末，而英語(yǔ)是重要信息處于句子突出位置，一般在句子顯著位置，漢譯英應(yīng)注意重要信息轉(zhuǎn)移。

例24在裝運(yùn)港，中國(guó)進(jìn)出口商品檢驗(yàn)局所簽發(fā)的品質(zhì)檢驗(yàn)證書應(yīng)作為最后依據(jù)。此據(jù)對(duì)雙方均有約束力。

譯文：The certificate of quality issued by the China Import＆Export Commodity Bureau at the port of shipment shall be final and binding upon both parties．

例25對(duì)于貴方的任何詢問(wèn)，我方將予以充分的關(guān)注。

譯文：We assure you of our best attention to any inquiry from you．

2.3敘事視角移位

在外貿(mào)漢譯英時(shí)轉(zhuǎn)換敘事視角，就是說(shuō)對(duì)于漢語(yǔ)第二人稱敘事，英譯文或采用被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)敘事；或以第三人稱全知視角敘事；或者采用第一人稱緩和法間接說(shuō)明問(wèn)題，這樣令外貿(mào)交往的空間更為寬闊，更加利于合作和人際交往。

例26 貴方犯了一個(gè)非常大意的錯(cuò)誤。譯文：A very careless mistake was made．

例27貴方似乎早應(yīng)辦完該項(xiàng)手續(xù)。譯文：It seems to us that you should have done it．

例28貴方建議恐怕令人難以接受。譯文：We are afraid that we cannot agree to your proposa1．

2.4人際立場(chǎng)移位

在外貿(mào)信函中，英文表達(dá)習(xí)慣于站在對(duì)方的立場(chǎng)來(lái)緩和語(yǔ)氣，達(dá)到交流的目的。中文表達(dá)消極意義的句子翻譯成英語(yǔ)時(shí)，多用積極肯定的語(yǔ)句來(lái)照顧對(duì)方的面子。

例29貴方?jīng)]能在中國(guó)人民保險(xiǎn)公司處為該批貨物投保。

譯文：We wish you could effect insurance on the goods with PICC．

例30今年，我們?cè)跉W洲并不需要另外的代理商。

We may need another agent in Europe next year．

中文的祈使句譯成英文時(shí)采用否定表達(dá)，是一種緩和法，更接近禮貌原則和合作原則。

例31請(qǐng)確保在五月底之前開(kāi)出信用證。

譯文：It seems you will no doubt open the relevant L／C at the end of May．

另一種表達(dá)合作意愿的函電英文法也是基于youattitude的，在翻譯時(shí)盡量站在對(duì)方的立場(chǎng)。

例32請(qǐng)注意，付款期限以此為7月9日為限。

譯文：As you know，the payment was due on July 9．

例33我方將立刻給予貴方答復(fù)。譯文：Your inquiry will be answered promptly．

例34一經(jīng)收到來(lái)證，我方自當(dāng)通力合作，及時(shí)安排裝船。

譯文：You may count on us to cooperate with you by arranging shipment in due time after receipt of your L／C．

3信函翻譯實(shí)例分析

敬啟者：

收到你方9月25日來(lái)函，得知你們有意建立合資企業(yè)生產(chǎn)化肥，并要求我們介紹對(duì)此可能感興趣的中國(guó)伙伴。

我們很快就與有關(guān)的負(fù)責(zé)人取得了聯(lián)系。他們表示歡迎你們來(lái)合營(yíng)，但首先想知道你們大致的投資額以及你們將使用什么方法來(lái)投資，即是用現(xiàn)金，資本產(chǎn)品還是技術(shù)。他們還想知道，如果項(xiàng)目不設(shè)在上海，你們是否同意。

我國(guó)合資企業(yè)法對(duì)外商在合資企業(yè)總注冊(cè)資本中投資是不規(guī)定上限的，但一般可以接受的最低投資額不少于25%，合資本企業(yè)雙方按他們各自在注冊(cè)資本中所占的份額分享利潤(rùn)，公擔(dān)風(fēng)險(xiǎn)和虧損。

應(yīng)該說(shuō)明，按照中國(guó)合資企業(yè)法，合資企業(yè)雙方一旦達(dá)成協(xié)議，合同雙方必須向外國(guó)投資委員會(huì)提出申請(qǐng)批準(zhǔn)雙方共同簽定的協(xié)議或合同以及所制定的公司章程。該委員會(huì)將在三個(gè)月內(nèi)決定批準(zhǔn)或不批準(zhǔn)，當(dāng)批準(zhǔn)后，該合資企業(yè)向我國(guó)工商行政管理局辦理登記，憑營(yíng)業(yè)執(zhí)照開(kāi)始經(jīng)營(yíng)。

Our joint Venture Law places no upper limit on the share of the registered capital of a joint venture contributed by a foreigner although, generally speaking, the minimum amount acceptable with not be less than 25%.The profits, risks and losses of a joint venture shall be shared by the parties to the venture in proportion to their contribution to the registered capital.

It is advisable to state that according to China’s Joint Venture Law, once a joint venture has been concluded, the contracting parties will have to apply to the Foreign Investment Commission for authorization of the agreement or contract signed between the parties to the venture and of the articles of association of the venture formulated by them. The Commission shall authorize or reject these documents within three months. When authorized, the joint venture shall register with the Administration for Industry and Commerce of our government and start operation under licence.
